About Us

The Odyssey is the student-run newspaper of Ulysses S. Grant High School. Students Mariam Mkrtchian and Nensi Hayotsyan, co-editors of the current newspaper, were inspired to re-establish The Odyssey, created originally in the 1950s. We revived The Odyssey with the intention of creating a safe environment in which students can report and keep up with school news in an entertaining way while expressing their favorite thoughts and ideas in a respectful manner. Our newspaper’s name was inspired by the name of our school, Ulysses S. Grant, whose name is the Latin version of “Odysseus,” the main character in Homer’s The Odyssey. We would like to thank our advisors, Mrs. Olivotti, and Mrs.Johnson, our web technicians Omer Miyara and Max Liberzon, and of course all of our writers, for allowing us to carry out our vision. We plan on expanding our paper and are extremely excited for what the future holds!

Mission Statement

Being a fully student-run organization, The Odyssey aims to give students a platform to use their voice. Our mission is to not only continue the work of the past Odyssey, but to provide a new and improved version. The Odyssey will provide complete factual information, ensuring that our students and staff are well informed about ongoing campus and worldwide news.
