Thanksgiving was first introduced in 1621 when Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn harvest feast. It has now become a national holiday in the United States and Canada, celebrated every year on the 5th Thursday of November. It is dedicated to honoring the harvest and blessings of the year and showing gratitude and kindness towards others.

This Thanksgiving season, Grant students had the opportunity to participate in various activities, allowing them to work together to raise the holiday spirit. Some of the activities included decorating a gratitude tree full of notes that demonstrate what the students are thankful for, which immediately grabs the attention of those who walk into the 300s building, organizing food drives to help families in need and the kindness chalk challenge during which students wrote kind messages for their teachers and staff. These interactive and engaging activities allowed students to demonstrate appreciation and thankfulness for the simplest things in life while creating a strong sense of community here at Grant High School.

In addition to all the activities, clubs at Grant High School organized Thanksgiving baskets that were provided to less fortunate families within the community. The making of these baskets is a long-lasting tradition; each year, students sign up to donate canned goods, beverage mixes, utensils, and many more Thanksgiving-related goods to help their community and fellow students. While collecting and assembling the baskets, students build a strong sense of community, as Thanksgiving is about spending time with family, being grateful, and, most importantly, giving back! After assembling the baskets, club members added handwritten notes and messages to the families as a way of showing gratitude and uplifting the family spirit.

The Grant community is fortunate to have a variety of clubs and students who are willing to take time out of their day to participate in acts of service. The clubs that participated in the making of these baskets include the Medical Club, CPDA Magnet Leadership, Key Club, Motivation club, Yearbook, Mental Health Club, Christian Club, Programming Club, and lastly, CSF. All these clubs and more are the foundations of the strong and successful community here at Grant High School.
