With the end of the fall sports seasons, it is incredible to look back and see the outstanding effort and gameplay of the girls’ tennis team. The girls had been practicing every day since the beginning of the school year in order to get ready for all their upcoming games. Their coach and assistant athletic director, Bill Foster, did a fantastic job at coaching varsity and junior varsity, as both showed significant growth and resilience.

Their fall season was extremely impressive, with varsity having eight wins and only two losses. This was a tremendous improvement from their 2021 season, which resulted from their dedication and hard work. Having been led by captains Nicole Boyadjian and Mary Sharanova, the team has shown a lot of great teamwork and dedication throughout the whole season.

The teams this year remain small, with ten players on varsity and junior varsity each. The single players on varsity are as listed: Mariam Grigoryan, Erna Kocharyan, Emily Sharanova, and Agnes Bitoka, and on doubles are Nicole Boyadjian, Mary Sharanova, Addison Casey-Sudvary, Carolina Rodriquez, Anasa Davis, Estrella Mejia, and Samantha Galadzhyan. The top players on the girls’ varsity tennis team that had a total of five wins in all were Erna Kocharyan as singles two, Emily Sharanova as singles three, and Nicole Boyadjian and Mary Sharanova as doubles one.

The junior varsity team includes Angelica Vardanyan, Emily Vandell, Ani Gyanjmyan, Michaela Cruz, Itzel Trinidad-Valles, Lilly Narjaryan, Lianna Hambartsumian, Lilit Chebeyan, and Emily Alexanyan. These girls, who were almost all new to the sport, practiced with great diligence and had impressive wins throughout the whole season!

Unfortunately, the team didn’t move forward in the playoffs, but as stated by the team captains Nicole and Mary, “the team became a family and formed an unbreakable bond.” The entire school can give kudos for the work that the girls’ tennis team had put in and the incredible achievements they have accomplished this year. As their season came to an end, the girl's tennis team acknowledged all their seniors as they showed true leadership and left a long-lasting legacy for their underclassmen. It is sad to see them go. However, these girls can be happy knowing they represented the Lancers well and showed the newcomers what the tennis program is all about. Overall, it was a wonderful year for girls’ tennis, and that is something the team, along with all of Grant, can be proud of.
